The secret of the LORD is with them that fear him; and he will shew them his covenant. Psalms 25:14

Reclaiming The Fear of the Lord

v
We must return to the Father as we prepare to set our hearts to council with the Lord and receive His counsel. As saints of God, we must posture our hearts to receive Him once again. What do I mean “to receive Him”? Our hearts must be set to embrace the fullness of Who He truly is. Our natural minds cannot fully comprehend the wonder of His person and presence. Many times, we are so casual and callous in how we handle the things of the Lord. We are so quick sometimes to speak irreverent of the things and persons that He holds dear and it can get us in trouble. However, because immediate judgment does not fall; then we lose respect of the holy and make it profane. Yet, God is charging and challenging His people to repent and return again unto Him. Because of our lukewarm and passive tendencies toward the things of God, the world boldly throws its irreverence in our face. The respect for the house of God, the people of God, and His righteousness standards are quickly eroding to the point of
blasphemy. Nevertheless, the Spirit of God is jarring and prodding the saints of God to ascend to a place of sanctification and consecration that the Fear of the Lord may once again rest upon us and influence those around us. In the Fear of the Lord lies the secrets of His counsel and fellowship.

Identifying The Fear of the Lord
4

The term, Fear of the Lord, does not reflect a scary, tormenting type of fear. This definition references one holding a reverential awe and respect of the Lord and His way of doing things; a trembling and quaking in a dread of Him It reflects one being afraid to bring dishonor to the Lord in anyway.
d
To truly walk in the Fear of the Lord is to walk circumspectly in such a way before the Lord that you do not want to do anything that may bring offense to Him. We have reduced God as this jolly benevolent deity that is so full of love that he understands the frailties of man and winks His eye at the misdeeds that we do. He is merciful, extremely longsuffering, and never angry. He is okay with our half-afforded attempts at righteousness and somehow it will all balance out in the end. God understands me and will make it all alright. God forbid! We served and have entered covenant with the Supreme God of the universe Who holds time and eternity in the palm of His hand. He is to be feared because He is the standard of our righteousness.
d
Psalms 89:7 declares "God is greatly to be feared in the assembly of the saints, and to be had in reverence of all [them that are] about him." If His saints will not love and honor Him, then who will?
d
Today, our apathy of His righteousness projects a nonjudgmental and tolerant attitude toward the sinfulness of the age. God hates sin, but loves the sinner. And He yet challenges the saints in Philippians 2:12c to work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. Without a healthy fear of the Lord, then we are subject to the wiles, power, and destruction of sin. We will play with sin until it eventually overtakes and destroys us. The Fear of the Lord is a place of safety and security for those who embrace it. The fear of the LORD tendeth to life: and he that hath it shall abide satisfied; he shall not be visited with evil Proverbs 19:23.
