When admiring a home, we usually talk about the brick or some facing, the landscaping, the color scheme, the lighting fixtures, or the woodwork. We seldom even think about such items as the foundation, the beams, or the uprights. These may be hidden from view, but they are basic to a well-built home. Many homes buyers have discovered in sorrow that they have invested poorly when they have been "carried away" by cheap "eye catchers" designed to attract the undiscerning.
In a similar way the part of us which gives our being value and power is hid with Christ in God. We cannot possibly discover the real worth of a person on the basis of appearance. A very ordinary and plain-looking woman may possess the mind of Christ and be filled with power. Inner strength cannot be measured by the human eye. When the tempest of greed, jealousy, hate, and pride beating upon us, that which is hid with Christ will stand even though much that has made a good appearance will be destroyed.
Today check your inner resources. Ask God to make you strong and beautiful within!
SCRIPTURE "No good tree bears bad fruit, nor does a bad tree bear good fruit. Each tree is recognized by its own fruit. People do not pick figs from thorn bushes, or grapes from briers. The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For out of the overflow of his heart his mouth speaks.
"Why do you call me, 'Lord, Lord,' and do not do what I say?
I will show you what he is like who comes to me and hears my words and puts them into practice. He is like a man building a house, who dug down deep and laid the foundation on rock. When a flood came, the torrent struck that house but could not shake it, because it was well built. But the one who hears my words and does not put them into practice is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. The moment the torrent struck that house, it collapsed and its destruction was complete." Luke 6:43-49
PRAYER Almighty God, though who art the strength of my life, abide in me that I may abide in thee." Amen.
